This portfolio contains photographs taken with a traditional camera for my photography I class. The areas in which I took my photographs for this class were the Elmira College Campus, Horseheads NY and my hometown Saratoga Springs NY, I have also taken digital photographs in these areas. Throughout the term I have been learning how to properly use a traditional film camera in terms of focusing, aperture and shutter speed. This has allowed me to gain an understanding of the camera and I was able to use my knowledge to take a number of photographs to fit into my portfolio. When viewing the subject matter of my photographs I noticed that the majority of photos are architecture. Throughout the portfolio I have some buildings that are old and worn down, as well as buildings from campus that are elegant and new. Although I have noticed I mainly photograph architecture, I feel the interest stems from the pictures being in black and white instead of color. While color can add detail to photographs, I feel that the buildings I photographed for class were more intriguing in black and white. Before taking photography I, I was unaware of the interest I had in architecture and how much I truly pay attention to the buildings around me. When walking around taking pictures, I would always find myself looking through the lens at some building near me, regardless of the condition or structure of the building. I feel that this interest in architecture that I was unaware of prior to taking this class has influenced many of the photographs I have taken throughout the entire course. |
